Microsoft Build 2026 Kicks Off With Agent-Centric Developer Platform

Microsoft Build 2026 opens June 2 in San Francisco with AI agents, GitHub Copilot updates, and Windows local AI.

The shift was underpinned by a wave of platform releases reaching general availability (GA), from the Microsoft Agent Framework to new Windows agent runtimes, all timed to coincide with the conference. Just before the conference doors opened, on May 26, 2026, Microsoft's Copilot Studio update moved three critical capabilities out of preview and into general availability: computer-using agents (CUAs), agent-to-agent communication, and real-time voice.

Nadella's keynote framed the entire software development lifecycle (SDLC) as being reshaped by agentic AI. He introduced an autonomous agent for site reliability engineering (SRE) and positioned GitHub Copilot not as a pair programmer, but as a "peer programmer" capable of being assigned bugs, features, and code maintenance independently.

Why it matters: Microsoft's shift from assistants to autonomous agents signals the industry moving beyond chat interfaces to production-ready AI systems that can own entire workflows.

NVIDIA's Jensen Huang Declares "Age of Agents" at GTC Taipei

Huang argued that artificial intelligence is moving beyond chatbots and simple assistants towards systems capable of reasoning, planning and carrying out complex tasks. A major theme throughout Huang's presentation was agentic AI. Unlike traditional AI assistants that mainly respond to prompts, agentic AI systems are designed to complete multi-step tasks, make decisions and work more independently.

He introduced the Vera Rubin AI computing platform and the Vera CPU for data centers, and the RTX Spark chip for AI PCs. NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang announced at the GTC conference that the company's next-generation AI computing platform, Vera Rubin, has entered full-scale mass production.

Why it matters: NVIDIA's infrastructure announcements provide the hardware foundation for enterprise AI systems to move from proof-of-concept to production scale.

Enterprise AI Product Launches Signal Market Maturation

Allstacks, the intelligence and management layer for modern software product development, today launched Product Studio, a shared workspace that helps product and engineering teams create stronger specifications for agentic development. Now generally available as part of the Allstacks platform, Product Studio gives teams a place to plan, draft, and refine product requirements using the context that already exists across their codebase, customer feedback, delivery history, design files, and strategy documents.

Why it matters: Context-aware development tools like Product Studio address the gap between AI capability and enterprise deployment by helping teams build specifications that hold up in production environments.

Key Developments

Record Q1 2026 AI Funding Reaches $255.5 Billion

Total AI-related investments climbed to $255.5 billion in the quarter - surpassing the entire $254.4 billion raised across all of 2025.

However, concentration was extreme: OpenAI, Anthropic, xAI, and Waymo absorbed 65% of all global venture capital in the quarter.

The firms that do are sovereign wealth funds and they've become arguably the most important investors in the AI ecosystem. Temasek (Singapore) participated in OpenAI's record raise.

PitchBook AI VC Report Q1 2026

Impact: Massive funding concentration in frontier AI companies creates a two-tier market where infrastructure leaders secure unprecedented capital while application layer startups face tougher funding conditions.

Voice AI and Agent Tools Lower Cost Barriers for SMBs

The recent launch cycle mentioned platforms such as Telnyx-hosted LiveKit agents and Regal AI's self-improving voice agent builder. These are not toys. They target sales, support, call routing, booking, and service workflows where labor cost is high and response time affects conversion.

Rakuten Advertising launched Mirai as an optimization agent for affiliate marketing. The AI agent manages campaign performance by identifying high-value partnerships and traffic sources. The tool automates adjustments to maximize returns for advertisers and publishers.

Impact: Lower-cost voice and automation tools democratize AI access for small businesses that can't afford enterprise AI deployments.

Physical AI and Robotics Move Toward Production Use

Announcing today: the NVIDIA Isaac GROOT Reference Humanoid Robot. A Jetson Thor-based robot with NVIDIA's software stack and a highly articulated body and hands from Unitree.

Customer Service Klarna's AI assistant handles two thirds of all customer service chats, doing the work of 853 full-time agents, cutting response times from 11 minutes to under 2 minutes, and saving an estimated $60 million in 2025. Singapore leads globally with a 94% AI customer service adoption rate, the highest worldwide.

Impact: Physical AI applications like humanoid robots and autonomous customer service demonstrate AI moving beyond software into operational business processes.

Enterprise Deployment Companies Emerge to Bridge AI Gap

OpenAI launches DeployCo, a new enterprise deployment company built to help organizations bring frontier AI into production and turn it into measurable business impact. As part of the OpenAI Deployment Company after closing, the team will strengthen OpenAI's ability to help customers move from use case selection to production deployment faster. The acquisition will bring approximately 150 experienced Forward Deployed Engineers and Deployment Specialists to the OpenAI Deployment Company from day one.

Impact: The emergence of dedicated AI deployment companies signals that technical integration, not model capability, has become the key barrier to enterprise AI adoption.
